The vehicle is a three-axle, four-wheel drive, long hood (6×6 drive configuration) flatbed truck. Initially, an air-cooled Deutz V12 diesel engine, type F 12 L 614, producing 184 kW (250 hp), was used under the very long bonnet, which comprised almost a third of the total length of the vehicle. From 1961, the also air-cooled Deutz F 12 L 714 A V12 multi-fuel diesel engine was installed, producing 195 kW (265 hp). The two variants could be distinguished externally by their different radiator grilles. To improve engine cooling, the side panels of the hood were often removed [ 2 ] (see image).
