The hull of the CM6614 is made of welded steel with a uniform thickness of 8 mm. The driver’s seat is located at the front left of the vehicle and is equipped with five visors on both sides covering a 200° field of view. The engine and transmission are located at the front right to maximize space for transported soldier equipment. The crew compartment, at the rear, has a motorized ramp for rapid boarding and disembarkation of troops. It also has a hatch on each side, in the central part of the vehicle. The crew compartment features a smoke extractor, vision blocks and embrasures allowing soldiers to fire their personal weapons safely from the inside. The APC can be equipped with a simple manual turret armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun, which can be folded during air and strategic transport. Three electrically operated smoke/fog grenade launchers are installed on each side of the turret.

The vehicle is amphibious and is equipped with run-flat tires, the internal material of which is made of piano wires. Propulsion in water is achieved through the movement of the wheels, while buoyancy is achieved thanks to the shape of the vehicle. However, it does not have a trim flap, so the vehicle is not completely waterproof; The sensor detects the water level and automatically activates the pumps to remove water from the vehicle. [2] The Fiat CM6614 can be very useful in rescue missions and emergencies such as natural disasters and for this reason it is still in service with the mobile police of the State Police.

However, the Italian-made CM6614, tested between 1976 and 1977 in South Korea, showed serious defects in its armored steel. When a projectile hit the armor, the plate cracked like glass instead of creating a single hole. In addition, new vehicles also suffered cracks in the armor plate at high temperatures, breaking into pieces without human intervention. [2]
