The 2S5 Giatsint-S is a Soviet 152 mm self-propelled gun introduced into service in 1978 to replace legacy field gun battalions at the Army and Front levels. Built on a modified chassis from the SA-4 Krug surface-to-air missile system, this vehicle combines high cross-country mobility with nuclear, biological, and chemical protection. It is capable of engaging targets at long ranges using both standard high explosives and rocket-assisted projectiles, operating with a specialized crew deployment workflow where most personnel operate outside the vehicle during staging.
