Analyzing The Farming Simulator 25 Trailer

The trailer for the latest Farming Simulator 25 game is now live! The CGI trailer, released by GIANTS Software shows new maps, new features, and updated machinery. In this article, we’re going to talk about all of the main things we were shown – and speculate on what you can expect once the game is released.

What is being said?

First and foremost, many players have already listened to the script voiced by a man, and a woman – while a lot of this can be attributed to generic “conversation to fill the silence”, there are a few possible hints many players have treated as possible teasers to different farming gameplay.

The man monologues: “All around the world, farmers know: Farmin‘ is an art. Like life, you know it can be hard. And it can be surprising, too. But sometimes, it’s about being at the right place at the right time. A wise man once said that the best lessons are learnt under the wide-open sky. I think the same thing can be said about our art. Yeah, it can be messy – but it’s always beautiful! So beautiful, it can help you see yourself in the world in all new ways. In the art of farming, there’s always a canvas – the seeds are the paint – and the harvest is the masterpiece.”

As the couple gathers to enjoy some freshly-cooked rice, next to a live chick, a woman finally breaks the monologue: “Hey, this is pretty good!”

“Yeah, it’s pretty darn good! Is it… Missin’ something?” the man starts staring at the white chicken on the table, as the title card shows. At the end, the man says the final line: “You’re too cute to eat, maybe some fresh spinach for some change?”

Here, for instance, we hear quite a bit about the farming being “surprising” – possibly relating to more extreme weather effects on the crop yields. “Can be messy”, and farming being an art also seems to indicate the weather, as well as new creative ways to deal with these issues to best the best possible harvest.

A stretch? Absolutely – but to paraphrase Mythbusters, if a trailer is worth analyzing, it’s worth overanalyzing.

New crop – spinach!

At the very end of the dialog, the two protagonists hint that their rice is missing an ingredient. But it’s not about the chicken, a common ingredient in Asian cuisine, but instead they’re talking about spinach.

From a culinary and nutritional perspective, I wouldn’t recommend it as a 1:1 replacement, but it seems like GIANTS have used this line in order to drop the first real confirmation – spinach will be a new crop in the FS25 game.

The final scene with the rice, the chicken, and the spinach is also a solid hint that production chains will get even more expanded. Maybe you will be able to make meals – or at the very least, process spinach in cans and sell it to hungry sailors.

New crop – rice

The CGI trailer focuses a lot on the rice cultivation, as well as showing a lot of Asian nature. The later press release from GIANTS has fully confirmed that there will be two different types of rice you will be able to grow in the game.

Naturally, with the new crop, you will also need some updated equipment. This is where this exciting machine comes in:

ISEKI PR/PRJ rice machine

The ISEKI PR/PRJ is a rice machine from ISEKI & CO, a Japanese agricultural machinery company, founded in 1926. This is the machine that can be seen working the fields in the game – and we expect plenty more of Asian machinery to make it to the final game. Given the Asian landscape on the trailer, and the announcement of the Asia map, it just makes sense.

New animals – Water buffalo

In the trailer, we can see the protagonists encountering a water buffalo. We fully expect this animal, a useful addition for many Asian farmers, to feature in the game as well. It’s still unclear whether the buffalo will join several other types of livestock in the game, or will they just act as passive animals.

However, considering the release of the new Asian map, we assume that the livestock will be updated accordingly. It’s most likely that water buffalo will be available as livestock on the Asian farms, but won’t play any significant part for the European and American maps – until the modders have their say, and bring water buffalo to everybody anyway.

New weather effect – Thunderstorms

The CGI trailer, in no uncertain terms, showed that lightning and storms will be a very important part of the game. This has only been made clearer, with the updates on weather effects, and soil deformation. It hasn’t been made clear just the extent of how extreme rain and storms can affect your harvest, but we expect some things to be done there.

Naturally, we don’t expect the final game to offer the same level of detail and clarity as the Farming Simulator 25 CGI trailer: but it’s very nice to see GIANTS take a big step towards realism in nature and natural weather.

New machines & equipment

Case Quadtrac 715

Tracked tractors make a lot of sense in humid and muddy conditions – which is why Case Quadtrac 715 looks perfectly at home on the Farming Simulator 25 trailer. The tracks offer soil-friendly cultivation, and as little compaction as possible. The tracks distribute plenty of weight, as the engine on this tractor cranks up to 778 HP, and it can work with many different extra attachments.

John Deere 9R

John Deere has been a crucial brand for Farming Simulator players, ever since Farming Simulator 19. So, it’s not surprising to see this massively popular brand getting some new updates in the game. The John Deere 9R is a massive 21-ton tractor with a 691 HP engine – and its latest version will be available on FS25.

John Deere S7 900 / X9 1100

The John Deere S7 900 combine harvester rocks a solid 14.1 thousand liter grain tank and a robust 625 HP engine. Want something more? The X9 1100 from the previous game will be available as well, giving you an even bigger, 700 HP engine.

SUMMERS Superchisel cultivator

The North Dakotan company SUMMERS builds tools, specifically focusing on soil cultivation. On Farming Simulator 25, you will be able to choose between rollers, cultivators, and stone pickers. On the trailer, only one piece of SUMMERS machinery is visible – and that’s the 18-meter wide Superchisel.

That being said, it’s nice to see more smaller US brands make it to the game: with more local machinery, country-specific saves should get even more exciting and realistic.

J&M Graincart

As another addition to the list of American producers, we see J&M Manufacturing Co. This company is known for producing cutter wagons, as well as seed and transfer trailers. In the trailer, we see the J&M transfer trailer being pulled by a John Deere 9R.

Aprilia Motocross RX 125

This is a brand new addition that got players quite excited: a good few seconds of the trailer are dedicated to showcase the Aprilia RX 125 motocross bike. We expect it to be available as a drivable item. Why? A motorbike is incredibly useful to quickly move past rough terrain and check out on your fields: especially if you’re working in mountainous Asian fields.
