In the context of the FSAF SAMP/T “Mamba” system, the TADS (Target Acquisition and Detection System) is the primary command and sensor node that orchestrates the battery’s defensive capabilities.

Role of the TADS Component
Centralized Control: The TADS vehicle serves as the “brain” of the SAMP/T battery. It houses the ARABEL radar, which is responsible for the detection and tracking of multiple airborne threats simultaneously (up to ten targets in some configurations).

Sensor Integration: It continuously scans the airspace, providing the necessary data for target identification and initial fire-control solutions. Once a target is locked, this information is passed to the Aster 30 missiles for engagement.

System Survivability: Because the entire battery relies on the data provided by the TADS to operate, it is the most critical component. If the radar on the TADS is destroyed, the connected launchers (TELs) are essentially neutralized as they lack autonomous target acquisition capabilities.

Strategic Deployment: In operational use, the TADS is often separated from the launcher vehicles (TELs) to reduce the risk of losing the entire battery in a single strike.

Operational Summary
Composition: A standard battery unit typically consists of the TADS vehicle (with the ARABEL radar) and multiple Transporter Erector Launcher (TEL) vehicles carrying the missiles.

Mobility: Like the rest of the SAMP/T system, the TADS is mounted on a high-mobility truck chassis (such as the Renault or Iveco platforms), allowing it to be rapidly deployed, set up, and relocated to maintain protection for army units or sensitive sites.
